Genre Decision

  After researching all the possible genres of our film, as a group, we decided the film would fit best in the drama genre. Even though the other genres researched were very similar and close to being chosen for this film. This film relies heavily on the emotional and relational development of the characters, it features a story with high stakes and conflict, and the fact that this film is plot-driven, portraying real-life scenarios, inspired us to decide on drama as its genre.

  Drama is characterized by stories with high stakes and numerous conflicts that rely on the emotional and relational development of characters. Dramas are typically plot-driven, which is why it was a genre that my group wanted to research. Our film's concept revolves around emotional development as well as plot development. Coming-of-age films focus on one or more key moments in a character's life, such as dealing with adversity, forming meaningful connections, or making a decision that will shape that character's future. As a group, we would like to research coming of age because, in our own group film, we do have a theme that plays into the role of growing up and a connection. The mystery genre revolves around the solution to a problem or crime. Foreshadowing is one of the most crucial components in the mystery genre as it allows clues to be revealed to the audience in a way that they will understand.       In the short film it addresses the issue of selfishness and taking someone for granted. In the beginning of the film, it starts out as a moment of rekindling of friendship between the two characters, where they highlight each other on significant moments in their life separate life and the one they both shared before. By this the audience gets a grasp of the two personalities of the characters and as the film develops and the scene changes the audience also gets to grasp the unfavorable traits of each character. For example, in the film, the first encounter of the issue was the character going inside the house to get changed, and the other waiting outside for a long period of time, which showed how one character was acting selfish in regard to other character waiting outside.
