Research Blog: Music Video Convention
My group is doing “If I was a rich girl'' by Gwen Stefani from the pop genre. This genre of music usually aims at the younger audience ranging from teens to younger adults. In this genre there is always a good rhythm and catchy melody.
They wear costumes that are usually very flashy, with bright colors, bold jewelry, and standout clothes and accessories. Everything is mainstream.
Props include microphones, instruments, and variations of lights such as natural light or party lights.
Their appearance is usually portrayed as happy, enjoying and content with life
The score is often fast paced to add excitement and energy within the music video.
Conventional codes in pop music videos helps the audience get more familiar with the genre as well as create a structure that the audience can enjoy and understand.
In the music video the camera is almost always angled to show the singer and follows the main theme, that way the audience gets an understanding of the narrative.
Sometimes pop music videos include other celebrities like singers or actors to help expose each other to the audience and gain more fans.
