Genre Decision

  After researching all the possible genres of our film, as a group, we decided the film would fit best in the drama genre. Even though the other genres researched were very similar and close to being chosen for this film. This film relies heavily on the emotional and relational development of the characters, it features a story with high stakes and conflict, and the fact that this film is plot-driven, portraying real-life scenarios, inspired us to decide on drama as its genre.

Genre blog - decision

  After a lot of research on the different genres of thriller, horror, and documentary, my group decided that our film will be best as a horror. With the mysterious murderer concept, horror was the best fit in our pitch and the resources needed were at best fit for both of us. In the thriller genre, there would be a need for a lot of fake weapons and props, which could be hard to find or just isn’t in our budget. Documentaries would require time consuming editing to fit a theme and our re-enactments would make the film seem less serious. Horror often has mystery and escape scenes which would create the perfect amount of suspense for our film, that’s why it was the best pick for us.

The Neighborhood

  Hey, Blog! Finally, the group decided on a location for the neighborhood scenes. We were only a short distance apart, so we had no trouble getting there. We walked around the neighborhood first to find the best location, then began assembling the tripod for filming. We talked about how each scene would play out and rehearsed the lines and shots. We had wind interfering with the audio of the actors during filming, so we had to retake the scenes or wait until the breeze died down. Fortunately, we had my AirPods and used them as a microphone to overcome the wind, and the audio sounded much clearer and of higher quality when we rewatched the scenes.  Everything was going swimmingly, including the weather, and the only issue we encountered was when we had to film scenes on the road.
