Sound
- lots of diegetic and non diegetic sounds to add emphasis to an action or emotion, it creates a suspenseful and tense atmosphere for the audience. Silence can also be included as a sound, creating this same effect
- common diegetic sounds includes footsteps, banging, gun shots, whispering and screaming
- common non diegetic sounds includes slow piano, high pitched violin or other percussion, and fast paced music
Mis-en-scene
- Costumes are usually realistic and normal outfits depending on the time of the setting
- Usually not much makeup as they want the characters to appear as realistic and relatable as possible
- Props often have weaponry including knives and guns because if the common confrontation that appears between characters in this genre
Editing
- Cut away shows characters reaction to a situation. Jump cut used to scare the audience. Fades to black gives a mysterious and tense feeling.
- Quick cut to imply chaos.

What elements of the genre that you like?
- my group likes is the tension and suspense created in the close up angles and diegetic sounds because this can be done with what we have available.
What elements of the genre do not appeal to you?
- we didn’t like the props, it just seems hard to incorporate into our film.
